About Western Gaels Mens team
Western Gaels’ Mens Team formed in Bristol in 1961, competes in the Gloucestershire League and Championship. Our Men’s team are the most successful team in the county with an impressive 19 Senior County Championship titles, the most recent being in 2016. Every year a number of our players also compete in the All Britain Inter-County Championship with the Gloucestershire county team.
The GAA Season
The GAA season usually runs from March – September. The season begins with a league format, playing other clubs across the South West of England. Once the league is over, we move into the Championship which usually kicks off in around June. Over the course of the months of the season there are often 7-a-side tournaments that the club takes place across the South West to keep up match fitness.
Gaelic Football Training
As a club, we organise fitness sessions with a Personal Trainer over the Winter months so that once we can get back out on the pitch we have a decent level of fitness to work from as we move into more ball work. Once we can get back out on the grass we will usually train during the week, and at weekends as well in our home ground of St. Mary’s Old Boys Rugby Club in Frampton Cotterell, North Bristol. Lifts are freely available from other members of the squad throughout Bristol and beyond if you have no means of travel.
